Youth Dance England
Youth Dance England (YDE), the national organisation that champions and promotes dance for all children and young people, will be turning Valentine’s Day into I Love to Dance Day with a huge, free silent disco led by BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance star, Drew McOnie.

Drew McOnie will open the free silent disco at 12 noon on 14th February at sunken outdoor amphitheatre The Scoop at More London, along with Youth Dance England’s very own Roz Lynch, who also featured in So You Think You Can Dance.

The silent disco will come to life as hundreds of young people and special guests from the dance world don wireless headphones and dance the hours away to the sound of music played by two guest DJs from silent disco specialists, SilentArena.

The event is part of Youth Dance England’s I Love to Dance campaign, which aims to increase participation in dance activity by encouraging young people from across the country to set up their own event or activity on, or close to, Valentine’s Day.

Drew McOnie, who made it into the final eight in the BBC’s search for Britain’s favourite dancer, is involved in I Love to Dance because: “To me, dance is the purest form of self expression. It can push you into any spectrum of emotions and bring you back happily fulfilled. Dance is like a very articulate silent conversation that can cover any topic. That’s why I love it!”

A Silent Disco for the RNLI

Commuters to Waterloo Station had a surprise on Thursday morning as they were greeted by a Silent Disco as they ran to catch their trains or while on their way to work. SilentArena, working with the RNLI, helped set up this event as a way to fundraise for the charity, as well as getting people interested and more aware of the cause. With various DJ’s performing including Radio 1’s Scott Mills the event proved to be a success with plenty of people showing an interest and having a quick dance before rushing off to work. The RNLI is a charity run organisation that relies on donations to continue, it provides a service that runs around the clock to anyone around the UK and the republic of Ireland who find themselves in trouble at sea.

Silent Night in Carnaby Street

SilentArena launches Christmas in Carnaby 2008 with Norman Jay. Carnaby epitomises cool music, edgy fashion and youth subcultures, so what better way to launch the Carnaby Christmas Decorations 2008 than inviting everyone to dance the night away to legendary DJ Norman Jay in the first winter wonderland silent disco. Taking place on Thursday 13th November, 5.30 – 6.30pm, ‘Silent Night’ will see keen dancers gather on Carnaby Street for this spectacular FREE event. Carnaby will be transformed for the ‘Silent Night’: imagine thousands of cascading snowflakes and 13 giant snowmen suspended over the streets and a crowd of dancers boogying beneath. Paul Dart, designer from James Glancy Designs who has created the Carnaby Christmas Decorations 2008 says “The inspiration for this year’s decorations came from the childhood fantasy of a white Christmas and the delight in creating snowmen from the first fall of snow. By filling Carnaby with thousands of snowflakes I want to remind people of the magic and excitement of snow falling’.

Dolly Rockers Music Vid

SilentArena help the Dolly Rockers in their new music video for "Je Suis Un Dolly". The Dolly Rockers are a return of music that’s bright (in both senses of the word), brash, slightly deranged but irresistibly catchy. We believe the big papers are calling it ‘wonky pop’. The Dolly Rockers themselves would probably call what they do ‘drunk disco’, but we’re not sure that’ll catch on. “Pop on their own terms” Along with bands like Alphabeat and The Ting Tings, Dolly Rockers belong to the generation who want pop back on their own terms.
